Welcome to Shepway Brass Academy

We are an exciting and affordable youth project that is bringing Brass Band music to a younger generation.

Based in Folkestone, Shepway Brass Academy gives the young people of Kent the opportunity to learn to play a musical instrument, be part of a band and participate in performances.

First established in 2013, SBA is now celebrating 10 years of music education and performance in Kent. Throughout this time the bands have enriched the lives of many young people, their families and communities.

Our band members are aged 8-21, and range from beginners to accomplished brass or percussion players. We have different bands to suit all abilities. Each session costs just £3.00 and includes provision of an instrument (subject to availability).

Our musical director is Paul Driscoll, who leads the beginners, training and academy bands. Our senior ensemble is led by Ian Lanceley. Additional tuition is given by various experienced brass musicians. We are also fortunate to have specialist guest conductors occasionally taking sessions.

If you are interested in joining SBA, please contact us via

and we can arrange a taster session, or just pop in at a rehearsal to see us.

From experienced players to complete beginners - all are welcome!
